Winter Workshops in Mexico
|
February 6 - 10, 2006 |
![]() |
Understanding our life stories allows us to appreciate and value our personal history, our current dilemmas, and our hopes and dreams for tomorrow. This process of appreciating and making meaning of our stories is a resource for enhancing spiritual development and healing trauma, pychodevelopmental dilemmas, and addiction. This five day intensive workshop offers a conceptual framework for understanding and exploring personal narrative that is influenced by psychodevelopmental, psychodynamic, and narrative theory along with practical skills that will heighten your effectiveness in working with others. Join us in the warmth of the Mexican sun for this unique opportunity to discover, enhance, and enliven the psychological and spiritual meanings in your own life story, explore your hopes and dreams, and bring new skills back home.
The workshop is primarily for practicing therapists and counselors, but significant others and adventuresome souls are also invited to participate if prior arrangements are made with Bruce or Patricia. While opportunities are available to discuss therapy technique and methodology, the primary learning methods for the week are intensive personal growth in a supportive group environment and opportunity for reflection and self-evaluation. Participants are supported to establish their own personal and professional goals for the workshop. We will meet for five hours each day, dividing the time between morning and early evening sessions, providing ample time to explore, play, and rest.
The Leaders:
Bruce and Patricia have worked together for over a decade in such diverse locations as New Jersey, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Mexico. Patricia's unique insights into transpersonal psychology, narrative therapy, and spiritual practice and Bruce's extensive grounding in psychodynamic and Gestalt psychotherapies form a special therapeutic blend of respect, creativity, presence, humor, and impact. In the workshop they integrate their theories of awareness, growth, and change while offering opportunities to personally experience their complimentary yet unique styles of work.
San Miguel de Allende:
San Miguel de Allende is a world famous hill town and artist’s colony in the mountains of Central Mexico. Founded in 1540, less than 50 years after Columbus first landed in the New World, San Miguel combines history, cosmopolitan arts and a delightful year-round springtime environment that attracts visitors from throughout the world. San Miguel is consistently ranked by Conde Nast readers as one of the 10 most interesting cities in the world to visit.
San Miguel is approximately 175 miles north of Mexico City and about 450 miles south of the US border at Laredo, TX. It is conveniently reached by Continental, American and other major airlines through Leon airport, about 60 miles away. You will be met at the airport by your personal driver who brings you to your hotel in San Miguel. For more information on San Miguel de Allende, see the website: www.portalsanmiguel.com.
Hacienda de las Flores:
Your residence in the city is the beautiful Hacienda de las Flores, a small (15 room) boutique hotel just two blocks from the city center. As the name implies, the hotel is filled with flowering plants, has a heated pool and sunning area and offers wonderful views of the city and countryside. Single or double accommodations are part of the workshop fee. For more information on the hotel see: www.haciendadelasflores.com.
Special Activities:
San Miguel de Allende offers a variety of attractions and activities, including outstanding Mexican, Fusion and Continental restaurants, golf, hot spring spas, horseback trips in the countryside, tennis and just relaxing in the Jardin (public garden in town center). The town is noted for its artists and many galleries. Performing arts are available nightly at the Bellas Artes (fine arts) Museum, the Teatro Angela Peralta and the Biblioteca Publica (public library). Shopping for art, silver, hand goods, artistic jewelry and a variety of other local, Mexican and international products is a major attraction in the town. Afternoon visits to surrounding communities, each with their own attractions, are available.
